LA Galaxy have transferred defender Miki Yamane to Japanese top-flight side Urawa Red Diamonds, the club announced Sunday.

Yamane spent the last three seasons with the Galaxy, originally joining from J1 League side Kawasaki Frontale. In total, the Japanese international made 99 appearances for LA across all competitions, contributing 1g/13a during that span.

In 2024, he helped lead the club to its league-record sixth MLS Cup presented by Audi title, featuring in 38 games between the regular season and playoffs.

"Miki has been a tremendous representative of the Galaxy during his time in Los Angeles,” said general manager Will Kuntz. “He played an integral role in our 2024 MLS Cup championship run and has represented the Galaxy with tremendous class both on and off the field throughout his time with the club.

"We are grateful for everything Miki has given to the Galaxy and wish him and his family all the best as he begins this next chapter of his career back in Japan.”

The 32-year-old now returns to his home nation, where he played the vast majority of his professional career, appearing in 290 total games.

Currently, the Galaxy sit 13th in the Western Conference, with 22 points (5W-8L-7D) through 20 matches.
